ちんぷんかんぷん = chinpunkanpun (Mini Lesson #129)

Today’s word is ちんぷんかんぷん = chinpunkanpun

This word is very similar to the English: “gibberish” or  anything that you don’t understand.

:qq: Verb : ～だ(=da) or ～です(=desu.)

*です（=desu) is more polite


Ex. あの先生のクラスはちんぷんかんぷんだ(or です）。

=Ano sensei no kurasu wa chinpunkanpun da (or desu).

=That teacher’s class is over my head.

Ex. 全くちんぷんかんぷんだ（or です）。

=Mattaku chinpunkanpun da (or desu).

=That’s Greek to me!


 :w: Adverb : ～で(=de)

Ex. マニュアルを読んだけれども、ちんぷんかんぷんでわからなかった。

=Manuaru wo yonda keredomo chinpunkanpun de wakaranakatta.

=I read the manual but it was all gibberish to me.


 :s: Adjective : ～な(=na)


Ex. ちんぷんかんぷんな顔(を）してるけれども難しいですか？

=Chinpunkanpun na kao (wo)shiteiru keredomo muzukashii desuka?

=You look confused. Is it difficult?

Ex. 彼はいつもちんぷんかんなことを言っている。

=Kare wa itsumo chinpunkanpun na koto wo itte iru.

=He always speaks gibberish.


マギー先生より = Maggie Sensei yori = From Maggie Sensei

何を言われているのかちんぷんかんぷんです。誰か訳してくれますか？

=Nani wo iwarete iru noka chinpunkanpun desu. Dareka yakushite kuremasuka?


=I have no idea what they are talking about. Can anybody translate these?
